Ordinance which exceede 20 dollars weekly, it might be argued that

other the Ordinance was intended to apply only to persons of Chinese or/

Asiatic race. The present Ordinance is intended to cover all

cases of maintenance ordere, irrespective of nationality, and it is therefore advisable to take the opportunity to remove all doubts

as to the construction of the only local Ordinance under which such

orders may be made.

8. Section 13 amends sections 4 and 6 of the Harried Women (Deser- tion) Ordinance, 1905, by removing the provision that no order may

be made for payment of more than 20 dollars weekly. The Ordinance

now amended has in its application up to date been confined to per-

sons of Asiatic race. The present ordinance is intended to cover

all cuses of maintenance orders, irrespective of nationality, and the maximum amount that may be ordered is too small in European cases.

9. Sections 11(a) and (b) and section 12 of the Act have not been

reproduced in the Ordinance for obvious reasons.

10. In my opinion this is an Ordinance to which His Excellency the

Governor may properly assent in the name of His Majesty and on His

behalf.

Attorney General.
